An advisor for cooperation and cultural activities in the Embassy,
Oliver Brochet, said French is spoken by some 150 million people, but
that in Croatia it was not promoted enough and something should be
done to change that. One of the reasons for teaching French in the
country is an increasing number of French tourists as well as larger
trade between France and Croatia, he added.
France, apart from the United States, offers the highest number of
scholarships in Croatia, but the number of applicants is lower than it
should be, which is primarily due to lack of knowledge of the French
language, Brochet said.
