The bishops voiced concern over the implementation of a programme on
educating young people about the prevention of HIV/AIDS.
"With this unacceptable programme, under the pretext of protection of
the adolescents against AIDS, a technique of use of preventive means
is being practiced, with the simultaneous negligence of the
personality of students and an educational dimension of schools that
have the aim of introducing students into the wholeness of the life,"
a press release read.
The programme (called MOMOAIDS) is also unacceptable because of the
fact that parents' approval has not been required for its
implementation, although parents are those who are answerable for the
education, life and health of their children, the Catholic dignitaries
said.
The bishops regard it is inadmissible that pressure is being exerted
on students and teachers who are believers and who have to take part
in a programme which is against the Christian ethics and their
conscience.
Present at yesterday's gathering of the Catholic dignitaries was also
Apostolic Nuncio to Croatia, Javier Francisco Lozano.
