The two-day debate, which ended today, was organised by the Croatian
Helsinki Committee for Human Rights and the European Roma Rights
Centre.
In 2002, 57 parents of Roma children sued Croatia's education ministry
and four elementary schools in Medjimurje County over discrimination
against and segregation of Roma children.
HHO Executive Committee member Tin Gazivoda said the claims would be
withdrawn as soon as separate classrooms for Roma children in
Medjimurje County were abolished. He added there were indications that
this might happen soon.
