ZAGREB, Jan 28(Hina) - The Croatian parliament concluded its session on Wednesday with a discussion on a proposed reduction of Value Added Tax from the current 22 per cent to 20.#L# In his closing statement, Finance Minister Ivan Suker said that despite the existence of two concepts of VAT, a "silent" consensus had been reached in parliament over the necessity to reform the tax system in order to restore order in the public finance sector and the tax collection system. "If we agree on this, we will also agree on the concept of tax reform," Suker said, adding that the reduction of VAT by two per cent was the first step by the government in its plan to reform the tax system. The session will continue on Thursday with a discussion on amendments to the laws on labour, maternity leave and health insurance. (Hina) vm sb
