SINJ, Jan 21(Hina) - Extensive research in an archaeological site in
the valley of the Cetina river flowing through the Sinj area (the
Split hinterland) will start this spring.#L#
The first stage of the research which is likely to last three to four
will be carried out by experts from the Museum of the Croatian
Archaeological Monuments in the Adriatic city of Split and their
colleagues from Birmingham, Great Britain, as well as from Slovenia.
The site is well preserved because of the underwater ground which
provides good conditions for the preservation of such locations.
It contains artefacts from the late Neolithic, the New Stone Age, the
period of the Roman Empire and the subsequent period.
The discovery of this site is described by experts as one of the most
important events in Croatia's archaeology in recent decades.
The entire Cetina valley is rich in archaeological sites. Since the
start of the 20th century when archaeologists began more intensive
research in the area, about 800 different archaeological sites have
been found in this Croatian region
