ZAGREB, Dec 30 (Hina) - A renowned Croatian scholar, Ivo Franges, died at the age of 83 in Zagreb on Monday. Franges used to be a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb at the departments of Croatian Language and Literature
and Romanic Languages and Literature.

Franges, a member of the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences (HAZU),
was a visiting professor at universities in Naples, Rome, Trieste,
Cologne, Krakow, Moscow, Frankfurt and Berlin.
He received several awards abroad, including the Herder Award for his
achievements in science on literature, the Humboldt Award and the
Italian medal Commendatore della Repubblica d'Italia.
Franges, born in Trieste in 1920, spent his childhood in
Bosnia-Herzegovina and Slovenia.
