EX-YU ARMY CHIEF OF STAFF TO TESTIFY AGAINST MILOSEVIC - RADIO

BELGRADE, Jan 18 (Hina) - The Hague war crimes tribunal's prosecutor's office has summoned the former Yugoslav Army chief of staff, retired general Momcilo Perisic, to testify against ex-Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic on January 22, Belgrade's Radio B92 said on Sunday citing Fonet agency as its source.
BELGRADE, Jan 18 (Hina) - The Hague war crimes tribunal's prosecutor's office has summoned the former Yugoslav Army chief of staff, retired general Momcilo Perisic, to testify against ex-Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic on January 22, Belgrade's Radio B92 said on Sunday citing Fonet agency as its source.#L# The information could not be confirmed either by the prosecutor's office or sources close to Milosevic's defence team, while sources close to the U.N. tribunal have unofficially indicated that Perisic is due to testify later this month or early in February, Radio B92 said. Perisic told Radio B92 today that it was incorrect that he would not testify on January 22, but added that if the Hague tribunal asked him to testify he would certainly do so "as... we have to recognise the international tribunal and if we want to enter Europe we have to cooperate with the Hague tribunal". Radio B92 recalled that during last week's hearings in the Milosevic trial, the prosecution asked the trial chamber to apply an agreement signed with the Netherlands under which witnesses against whom indictments or international arrest warrants have been issued will not be arrested while in The Hague to testify. Prosecutor Geoffrey Nice said the agreement had to be applied so that one witness, whom he did not name, could testify, Radio B92 said. (Hina) ha
