ZAGREB, Nov 23 (Hina) - Croatian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks on Wednesday received Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, Seks's office said in a press release.

Seks congratulated Serbia and Montenegro on launching negotiations on a Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the European Union, underlining that it was also in Croatia's interest that the countries in the region integrated into the EU as soon as possible in order to ensure full stability and progress in the region.

The two officials said Croatia-Serbia relations were crucial for all significant political developments in the region and that the attitude towards the Serb minority in Croatia and the Croatian minority in Serbia and Montenegro was closely linked to that.

Seks said the agreement signed on the protection of minorities represented a historic step forward in bilateral relations, but added the focus must be on its full implementation. The two officials were agreed the positions of the Serb minority in Croatia and the Croatian minority in Serbia and Montenegro were interrelated and that efforts should be invested in closing all issues stemming from the common past.

Seks and Kostunica were also agreed parliamentary cooperation should be intensified because it contributed to the overall improvement of bilateral relations.

Earlier today Kostunica met his host, Croatian PM Ivo Sanader, and is due to meet President Mesic. He is the first Serbian PM to visit Croatia since the two countries established diplomatic relations.
