ZAGREB, Nov 17 (Hina) - Two parliamentary deputies of the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) on Thursday visited two returnee families in Jagma near Lipik, 100 km southeast of Zagreb, whose two members were recently killed by explosive devices.

The SDSS said in a press release that Vojislav Stanimirovic and Milorad Pupovac spoke with the families about the circumstances of the deaths and offered to cover funeral and other costs. They also voiced concern "because this kind of terrorism hasn't been seen since the late 1990s, when it was being used in (the region of) Lika".

The SDSS officials called on the local population to remain calm and cooperate with the police, whose initial findings they claimed indicated that the explosives had been planted for the purpose of killing people who had been cutting firewood in a forest.

Pupovac discussed the incident with Interior Minister Ivica Kirin yesterday and the SDSS expects an effective probe and the punishment of "those who resort to such terrorist activities," read the statement.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Zagreb office said yesterday two returnees to Jagma, Milan Paunovic and Bogdan Stankovic, were killed while collecting wood in a forest on November 11 and 13.

The UNHCR voiced concern by the fact that the deaths occurred in a short period of time in similar circumstances in an area which was evidently not marked as possibly mine-infested.

The Interior Ministry said today they were investigating the circumstances in which the incidents occurred but that there were no concrete results as yet.
