PARIS, Nov 15 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader gave a talk at the Europe House in Paris on Tuesday on the topic "A European Croatia", stressing that Croatia's accession to the European Union was in the interest of both Zagreb and Brussels.

Croatia does not bring any burden to the EU which would demand additional efforts in terms of the Union's existing values and standards, said Sanader.

He recalled that Croatia had successfully carried out transition reforms and that its macroeconomic factors put it ahead not only of other EU accession candidate states, but also countries which joined the Union in May 2004.

Croatia is not coming to the EU to ask for anything, rather the European economy will gain with Croatia, he said.

Croatia is also implementing a consistent policy of reconciliation and promotion of the social integration and participation of national minorities, Sanader said, adding that nobody was excluded on the political scene.

He said Croatia's orientation to new, European values had a positive impact on the entire region.

Croatia is willing to give its contribution to the establishment of peace and security in the region as a bridge between the EU and Southeast Europe, Sanader said.

He underlined that Croatia would continue cooperating with the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague.

No shadow will remain cast over Croatia and the EU accession negotiations have only made our responsibility bigger, he said, adding the talks opened on October 3 would only step up and round off the country's transformation.

Sanader said Croatia was ready for the negotiations and intended to complete them in two and a half to three years. He added Croatia's goal was to vote in the June 2009 European Parliament elections as an EU member.

Sanader arrived in Paris at the invitation of French President Jacques Chirac.
