The Croatian government said it was closely following the developments in Iraq and considered the referendum very important for ensuring peace and security in both Iraq and the wider region.
The government went on to say the high turnout at the referendum was encouraging because it would lead to a wide acceptance of the constitution as the foundation of the development of democracy and institutions of state authority.
Croatia supports the Iraqi people in theirs efforts to build a safe and prosperous society and is ready for dialogue with the Iraqi authorities on all issues of mutual interest after the forthcoming opening of a special Croatian mission to Baghdad, the press release said.
