Sanader also said that HDZ BH leaders had talked with leaders of the European People's Party (EPP) who asked for Covic's resignation and the election of a new party president.
The HDZ BH said in today's press release that such statements were ill-intentioned and that they discredited the legal and legitimate party leadership.
The party said it was surprised by the fact that attempts to destabilise the political position of Bosnian Croats through orchestrated and imposed divisions existed also in Croatia.
The party went on to say that it expected clearer support also from Croatia in a "moment when the HDZ BH, as the leader of positive political processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina at many meetings in Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad, is giving a strong contribution to the building of a democratic Bosnia and Herzegovina of equal and free peoples and citizens".
The press release added that instead of partner relations, attempts were being made to impose a puppet leadership and weaken the power of the HDZ BH and the political position of Croats in Bosnia.
The party underlined that at its June 4 assembly, the HDZ BH elected Covic president and that the assembly ended to the satisfaction of the majority of party members.
Ljubic, who ran against Covic for party president, claims that Covic's victory was rigged through irregular ballot counting.
Ljubic, Raguz and Merdzo have recently initiated a memo advocating the replacement of Covic and a new party assembly to elect a new president. Such requests have been supported by the EPP, in which the HDZ BH has observer status.
