LJUBLJANA, Oct 6 (Hina) - Slovene Prime Minister Janez Jansa said on Thursday that a bilateral agreement on the border with Croatia within a European framework was not possible, because Slovenia is a member of the European Union while Croatia is not.

Jansa was speaking after a meeting with his coalition partners, which focused on the implementation of important tax and financial reforms over the next few years.

He said that according to European standards initialled agreements also applied, alluding to a Slovene-Croatian agreement initialled in 2001, which is frequently cited by the Slovene side.

The prime minister also said that the question of arbitration had been given too much attention in Slovenia in recent days, and that Slovenia had never tried to escape from arbitration as a way of resolving the border dispute.
