BIJELJINA, Oct 21 (Hina) - Several posters with requests for naming the town's central square after war-time Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic appeared in the northeastern Bosnian town of Bijeljina on Friday morning.

The spokesman for the local police confirmed that the posters appeared with Serb nationalistic symbols, namely four letters 'S' written in the Cyrillic alphabet and the text reading that after a square in Sarajevo was named after Alija Izetbegovic, the Serb people insists on "urgent and uncompromising changing of the name of the central square in Bijeljina", i.e. its naming after Bosnian Serb warlord Karadzic.

According to the police spokesman, the police ordered the immediate removal of the posters.

Fugitive Karadzic is indicted for war crimes by the the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

He is also known for having publicly threatened the Bosniak (Bosnian Muslim) people in 1992 with perishing if Bosnia-Herzegovina decided to become independent.

On October 19, one of the squares in the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo was named after the late Alija Izetbegovic, the first president of Bosnia-Herzegovina's collective presidency and Bosniak leader, as part of the events commemorating the second anniversary of his death.
