There is no bird flu in Kopacki Rit, which is one of the biggest bird reserves in Croatia. All necessary measures of precaution have been taken, Bubalo said, calling for stepping up the measures.
He went on to say that the county authorities would grant the nature park some 150,000 kuna for additional equipment to be used for bird monitoring. He warned that some parts of the reserve were mine-infested or could not be accessed, adding that funds would be sought from competent ministries for demining.
The director of the nature park, Biserka Vistica, said people working in the reserve would step up measures to monitor birds as of Wednesday.
There is no reason for panic, but maximum preventive measures must be taken, Vistica said.
She added that Kopacki Rit was home to some 20,000 different bird species, including wild ducks, geese and swans. During the winter, the nature park is also home to up to 70,000 birds from the north.
