ZAGREB, Sept 22 (Hina) - Croatia is free of bird flu, but the
occurrence of the disease in the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan and the way
of its spreading through the migration of wild birds represent a potential
threat that the disease could also break out in our country, the Government's
expert commission for monitoring epidemic situations and the prevention of bird
flue said at its first session on Thursday. The occurrence, notably
the spreading of the disease among the poultry and its possible spreading on
humans have been reduced to minimum, because the production of poultry in
Croatia is conducted in line with the most up-to-date technological and
bio-safe procedures, the head of the commission, Mate Brstilo told
reporters.
The commission adopted a draft national programme of the disease
control for which between 2.5 and 3 million kuna will be ensured, Brstilo said.
The programme is aimed at detecting the disease in domestic poultry and wild
birds in an early stage by establishing the so-called active and passive
monitoring.
