SIBENIK, Oct 9 (Hina) - Representatives of 32 embassies in
Croatia, including chiefs of diplomatic missions accredited in Croatia, charges
d'affaires and their families, visited the central coastal city of Sibenik on
Sunday on the occasion of Independence Day, which Croatia marked yesterday. They were welcomed by Sibenik-Knin County prefect Duje Stancic and
Sibenik Mayor Nedjeljka Klaric, and also attended mass in St. Jacob's
cathedral.
Austrian Ambassador Helga Konrad told the press she was very pleased
that Croatia's European Union entry negotiations were launched earlier this
week. She added Austria had always advocated both Croatia's independence and
its admission to the EU.
She said she was delighted with Croatia's nature, notably the coastline
and the Kornati islands, and underlined the importance of protecting natural
resources.
