NEW YORK, Sept 20 (Hina) - The Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, met the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton, in New York on Tuesday for talks on cooperation between the two countries within the UN, bilateral cooperation and US support to Croatia on its path to NATO membership.

Grabar-Kitarovic's first meeting with the recently appointed ambassador took place "in a very friendly atmosphere of full cooperation," a senior Croatian diplomat who attended the meeting on the margins of the 60th session of the UN General Assembly told Croatian reporters.

The talks focused on possible forms of cooperation between Croatia and the United States within the United Nations and on cooperation in the reform of the world organisation.

Speaking of Croatia's efforts to join Euro-Atlantic integration processes, Grabar-Kitarovic asked Bolton to use his influence and help Croatia get an invitation to NATO membership as soon as possible, the diplomat said.

Bolton made a promise to that effect, saying that Croatia had made progress in the necessary reforms for becoming a full member of the alliance.

The Croatian minister described the current situation with regard to Croatia's progress towards membership of the European Union, and the US ambassador expressed "full understanding for the Croatian position," the diplomat said.

The two sides concluded that the partnership between the US and Croatia was "firm and stable," and that they would continue cooperating at the level of missions at the UN.

Grabar-Kitarovic also informed Bolton about Croatia's contribution within the antiterrorist coalition and its activities within the Proliferation Security Initiative, the Croatian diplomat said.
