The conference will be a follow-up to the the first gathering of presiding officers that was organised by the Interparliamentary Union in 2000.
Seks will address the conference on 8 September on the subject "Parliaments and Multilateral Cooperation: Facing the Challenges of the 21st Century". In his speech, he will focus on the role of national parliaments in combating such burning problems of today as terrorism, poverty, starvation and uneven development and in implementing the goals defined in the UN Millennium Declaration, including disarmament and human rights protection.
Seks will have a series of bilateral meetings with his counterparts from other nations and will also attend a meeting of the Twelve Plus Group, a geopolitical group within the Interparliamentary Union, which is due to discuss global security and terrorism and adopt a joint statement on recent terrorist attacks.
On 9 September, the speaker of the Croatian Parliament is scheduled to meet in the Croatian Consulate-General in New York with representatives of the Croatian community in the United States and business people interested in investing in Croatia.
