Condemning an explosion which occurred in the post-room of the British Embassy in the Croatian capital on Monday morning, Minister Kirin said that Britons in Croatia had no reason for concern.
Asked whether Croatian intelligence services failed to do their job, Kirin said he had no comment.
Minister Kirin gave the statement after the opening of a twinning project called "Crime and Intelligence System", which should have been attended by British Ambassador John Ramsden, who he had to cancel his participation due to the explosion in which a man working for the embassy was slightly injured.
Justice Minister Vesna Skare Ozbolt said the police were investigating the case and that the public would be informed of the results as soon as the probe was completed.
The spokesman for the Ministry of the Interior, Zlatko Mehun, told reporters that according to first indications, an unknown device detonated in the embassy's post-room.
The police declined to give any more details.
Mehun also said that the public had no reason for heightened concern for their security.
The leader of the strongest opposition party, the Social Democrats, issued a press release most strongly condemning the blast.
Ivica Racan said that the efficiency of the probe in the terrorist attack would also impact the relations between Croatia and the European Union.
Racan expressed hope that competent bodies in Croatia would quickly find the perpetrators and establish their motives.
