The ambassador is visiting Korcula at the invitation of mayor Mirko Duhovic. On Tuesday he will attend a reconstruction of the 1298 naval battle between Genoa and Venice in which Polo was captured and during his captivity wrote his book about China and Japan.
Accompanied by Duhovic and Vladimir Depola, president of the Marco Polo International Centre, the Chinese ambassador visited the house in which Polo was born. He said China would donate money for the renovation of the house as well as all activities dedicated to Polo.
In the evening the ambassador gave a talk about China at the Korcula town hall.
