"His arrest is part of the action plan, because Petrac is said to be a member of the so-called network of supporters" of fugitive Croatian army general Ante Gotovina, who is wanted by the Hague tribunal, Sanader said at a press conference at the end of a meeting of the European People's Party (EPP) in the Polish city of Gdansk.
Sanader also said that he met Slovene Prime Minister Janez Jansa in Gdansk on Wednesday and that Jansa assured him that "Slovenia is fully supporting Croatia on its path to the European Union regardless of the outstanding issues between the two countries."
Sanader said that they discussed the need to arrange another meeting, either in Croatia or Slovenia, and that it was time that the two countries reached agreement on arbitration and the two governments undertook to accept the results of the arbitration.
Speaking ahead of his trip to Nuremberg on Friday to attend a Christian Democratic convention, Sanader said that his HDZ and the CDU-CSU were "sister parties" and that they were together in the EPP. He added that the German and Croatian governments should cooperate regardless of their political colours.
"I want Angela Merkel to win. The Croatian government, the present one or any other, will cooperate with any German government," the Croatian prime minister said.
Sanader ended his visit to Gdansk where, together with Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic and Culture Minister Bozo Biskupic, he had attended a celebration commemorating the 25th anniversary of the legendary Polish trade union Solidarity.
The event was attended by some 20 European prime ministers and several heads of state, senior officials from the European Union and the European Commission, and representatives of Canada and the United States.
