This town is famous for its park ornamented by wood sculptures made by sculptors who were not college-trained artists.
This year's event, which will last by 28 August, has pooled 12 sculptors and 15 painters from entire Croatia as well as a Hungarian sculptor.
Next week they will draw paintings which will be donated to the town's art museum, and make sculptures that will remain in the main street.
During this year's event, visitors will be able to see also 38 sculptures and carvings which were returned to Ernestinovo from Serbia-Montenegro last year. A part of the holdings of the town's art museum, established in 1973, was taken to Serbia while the eastern region of Croatia was under control of local Serb rebels, supported by the then Yugoslav People's Army (JNA).
The chairman of the local association of artists, Mato Tijardovic, said that Ernestinovo was still searching for 120 wood sculptures and 200 paintings which disappeared during the occupation. The Croatian Culture Ministry as well as Interpol have joined in efforts aimed at finding those pieces of art.
