The police found Matekovic in the Zaprudje neighbourhood. Matekovic recognised the police officers and started to run towards buildings at Bundek lake, where he was discovered and arrested two hours later. Matekovic attacked one police officers so another two policemen had to use force during the arrest, causing him minor injuries," chief of Zagreb police Kresimit Sulc said.
During the search for Matekovic, police have shot and injured a man who was running from the police because he was illegally staying in Croatia. The injured man is a Bosnian citizens and he fitted Matekovic's description.
Matekovic declined to talk to the police after the arrest. Zagreb police said there was no time for a longer interrogation last night because Matakovic needed medical assistance.
The son of Croatian Army General Vladimir Zagorac, Tomislav, was kidnapped on 23 February 2004, outside of his home in Zagreb. He was released four days later, after his father paid a 750,000 euro ransom, which was a half of the amount the kidnapper had requested. The ransom money was never found.
