BELGRADE, Aug 17 (Hina) -

Abd El Majid Bouchar of Morocco, suspected of the March 2004 terrorist attacks in Madrid, was arrested in Belgrade on Tuesday, the electronic media in Belgrade reported on Wednesday.

Dragana Kajganic of the Serbian Interior Ministry's public relations office confirmed the reports for the Belgrade-based BK TV station. Beta news agency reported that Bouchar was taken to an investigating judge in Belgrade on Wednesday evening.

The 22-year-old Moroccan, for whom an international arrest warrant had been issued, is suspected of escaping from a flat in the Madrid suburb of Leganes shortly before Spanish police raided it on April 3, 2004. During the police operation, seven terrorists activated explosive to avoid arrest, killing themselves and a police officer.

World news agencies reported that Bouchar was arrested in Serbia for violating the law on foreign nationals because he had false Iraqi documents in the name of Midhat Salah.

The Serbian state radio-television network tonight broadcast a video-recording of Bouchar's arrest showing members of special police units putting him in a police vehicle after which he was driven off under tight security measures for questioning by an investigating judge.

In the terrorist attacks in Madrid on March 11, 2004, 191 people were killed and more than 1,500 were wounded.
