BELGRADE, Aug 9 (Hina) - Interpol has confirmed that Hague
tribunal indictee Milan Lukic, charged with war crimes in Bosnia-Herzegovina,
has indeed been arrested in Argentina although at the time of his arrest he had
documents bearing the name of another person, the president of Serbia and
Montenegro's Council for Cooperation with the ICTY, Rasim Ljajic, told
reporters in Belgrade on Tuesday. "The search for Lukic lasted nine
months and his arrest will be followed by his extradition. Considering that the
Hague tribunal takes precedence over national judiciaries, Lukic will
certainly be transferred to the Hague tribunal in the next few days," Ljajic
told Belgrade's Radio B92.
Lukic has been sentenced in Serbia to 20 years in prison for war
crimes, abduction and murder of 16 Muslims from Sjeverin in 1992.
He was indicted by the ICTY in November 2000 for crimes against
humanity and the killing and torture of non-Serb civilians from the eastern
Bosnian town of Visegrad.
Lukic is the second Serb indictee to be arrested in Argentina this
year. Before him, Nebojsa Minic was arrested in Medosa in May. Minic is
standing trial in Serbia for war crimes in Kosovo in 1999.
