OSIJEK, Aug 11 (Hina) - Osijek-Baranja County police on Thursday declined to comment on yesterday's statements by Movement for Slavonia and Baranja president Branimir Glavas and a list of killed Serb civilians he read out at a press conference, claiming the list was from 1994.

County police official Stipo Rimac told Hina the local police "have no comment".

Glavas, a former member of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) who the media say could be the main suspect in the 1991 killings of Serb civilians in Osijek, on Wednesday read out a list of 40 unsolved murders of civilians, mainly Serbs but also Croats and Muslims, killed in the eastern city and the area in 1991, 1992 and 1993. He said the list was a copy of a police document dating from 1994.

Glavas also read out when and how they were murdered. He stated the list also contained the names of the suspected killers but did not identify them.

Glavas said that his name or the name of any of his close associates was not by the name of any of the victims.

He added Osijek-Baranja County police chief Vladimir Faber, who is investigating the unsolved murders of civilians in 1991, was not interested when offered information from the list.

Glavas also said that Chief State Prosecutor Mladen Bajic was receiving instructions from Prime Minister Ivo Sanader.

"Bajic is not interested in who committed the said killings, he wants to know who ordered them, like (Zarko) Puhovski from the Croatian Helsinki Committee (HHO), who is looking for witnesses and documents that would incriminate me. I want to tell them that they won't find them because Branimir Glavas did not order crimes," Glavas said.
