ZAGREB, Aug 6 (Hina) - Loans approved to the retail sector in Croatia reached a record high 69.8 billion kuna in June, with a rise in retail credits for five consecutive months.

Retail credits rose by 2.3 percent (1.55 billion kuna) in June as against May, which has so far been by the highest monthly rate in 2005.

According to an analysis made by Raiffeisenbank (RBA), the growth rate in the retail loans this June on an annual level was for the first time after April 2004 higher than 20 percent, i.e. 20.8 percent.

Of 69.8 billion kuna, one third, namely 23.2 billion kuna were granted as housing loans to citizens.

Loans granted to companies also registered a rise of 455 million kuna in June as against May, which was primarily a consequence of a rise in kuna-linked and foreign currency loans for the fifth consecutive month. With a growth rate of 7.9 percent on an annual level, loans granted to companies reached 60.5 billion kuna, RBA analysts reported.

All loans granted by banks reached 133.7 billion kuna in June with an annual growth rate of 14.5 percent.

Figures indicated an acceleration in the growth of loans approved by banks in the second quarter of 2005.

According the the RBA analysis, in the first half of 2005, loans granted to companies rose by 2.75 billion kuna, as against a rise of mere 473 million kuna in the first half of 2004.

The rise in loans granted to citizens from the end of 2004 to the end of June this year was 4.5 billion kuna with a 2.75-billion-kuna rise in the first six months of 2004.
