PODGORICA, July 29 (Hina) - Montenegrin Parliament Speaker Ranko Krivokapic accused Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica on Friday on treating Montenegro as former President Slobodan Milosevic used to do, and said that when Kostunica came into power Montenegro did not get a friend in Serbia.

Krivokapic also said that no matter how hard they tried, Kostunica and his supporters would not prevent Montenegro from re-establishing its independence.

"I am worried that after the lost wars and battles in Kosovo and Bosnia, Kostunica is trying to move onto Montenegro. That's a battle lost in advance," Krivokapic told the press.

"Montenegro will always be Serbia's friend, but it will be able to tell who in the Serbian authorities is its friend and who isn't. The will of the citizens is crucial, which is why independence will win in Montenegro," said Krivokapic.

He reiterated that the referendum on Montenegro's independence would be held by the end of April 2006 at the latest because "we finally have to ask the citizens if they want to live in a union that has neither historical nor democratic legitimacy, a union created by Slobodan Milosevic's violence in only seven days which hasn't brought the citizens of Montenegro any good".
