SUBOTICA, July 22 (Hina) - One of the leaders of the Croat
community in the province of Vojvodina, Dujo Runje, on Friday resigned from the
Croatian National Council (HNV) in Serbia and Montenegro, whereby the Croatian
minority's umbrella body remained without a vice president for the Subotica
area and without one of its 35 councillors. In his resignation to
the HNV president, Runje said he felt partly responsible for the council's poor
performance.
He also criticised the HNV for not dealing with outstanding issues.
HNV president Josip Pekanovic told Hina he was surprised by his closest
associate's decision, adding the misunderstanding should be overcome in order
to prevent the destabilisation of Croats' umbrella institutions in Serbia and
Montenegro.
