Bardhyl Ajet, a journalist with the Bota Sot newspaper, was driving a car along the Pristina-Gnjilane road when he came under fire from another car, police reported on Saturday.
The incident occurred near the village of Bresalce at 2140 hours on Friday. Ajeti was transferred to hospital in Pristina in critical condition.
Police said that an investigation was under way. No motives for the attack or information on possible attackers were given.
Four journalists have been killed in Kosovo since the end of the armed conflict in 1999 but none of the murders has been solved.
