The HDZ list for Osijek-Baranja County is headed by Tomislav Ivic, state secretary at the Ministry of Family and War Veterans Affairs and Inter-generational Solidarity, while the party's candidate for Osijek mayor and head of the list for the Osijek City Council is Luka Crnkovic.
The lists were compiled on Thursday evening after the HDZ leadership ousted Branimir Glavas, a local power-monger and until the ouster a senior party official from the party membership, and dissolved the HDZ branches in the city of Osijek and Osijek County. Ivic resumed the duty of the party commissioner for that eastern county.
The third on the HDZ list for county elections is Zdravko Vukic, the chief of the Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) branch in Osijek-Baranja County. The list with 47 candidates also includes another three HSLS members.
Asked by reporters how that happened that he was at a news conference with Glavas earlier in the the day and supported his platform about regionalism, and that before the lists were submitted he was now on the other slate, the HSLS official Vukic answered that he had not then known that Glavas was expelled from the HDZ, and that he was now on the HDZ list as his party had a coalition agreement with the HDZ.
