ZAGREB, April 21 (Hina) - The Vice President and a parliamentary deputy of the Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS), Djurdja Adlesic, on Thursday called on the government to start dealing with economic topics, and expressed fear that the local elections, scheduled for 15 May, and inter-party debates would attract all the attention on the political scene in the few coming months.

Adlesic said that that's why she was calling on the Ivo Sanader cabinet to focus on economic topics.

"The government must answer a question whether the insufficient economic development of Croatia could become a large obstacle than the case of General Ante Gotovina" regarding the country's bid to join the EU, the HSLS official tod a press conference in the Sabor.

She said that she was concerned over some negative trends such a rise in the number of unemployed Croatians and a higher budgetary deficit.

Commenting on the International Monetary Fund's recommendation for smaller funds to be given to Croatia's public health, she said that this would be a blow to citizens, and proposed that government start with reforms instead with austerity measures in the health sector.
