As of Tuesday, Cestar will head the Istria County Crime Police Department, the press release said without saying which oversights Cestar was replaced for.
Interior Ministry spokesman Zlatko Mehun said oversights in the performance of the Crime Police Department had been noticed during checks done in connection with the case of Ante Gotovina, the general wanted by the Hague war crimes tribunal.
"The police are intensively checking all allegations in the Gotovina case, including investigations aimed at finding the person suspected of revealing a state secret. The checks include both the Interior Ministry and the Counterintelligence Agency and they revealed that oversights were committed by the Crime Police Department," said Mehun.
He declined to say which state secret had been revealed and which oversights had been made, but added that Cestar "isn't being suspected or linked to the leaking of information from the Interior Ministry, which is being checked".
