The resolution, which was moved by the youth organisations of nine parties, including the HDZ Youth, calls on the European Council to reject the Council of Ministers' decision and immediately start talks with Croatia considering that Croatia responded positively to more than 600 requests by the Hague tribunal, with the exception of one case.
It is noted in the document that opposition to the launching of the talks is not motivated by that one case but by other political issues, and that the EU must not leave the decision on Croatia's membership to third parties but judge the country on the basis of its achievements and fulfilment of the Copenhagen criteria.
The resolution also conveys concern over possible negative effects for the political stability of the region.
David Hansen of the Norwegian Union of Christian Democrats was elected EPP Youth president, while HDZ Youth candidate Darija Jurica received unanimous support for the post of financial auditor.
