TOKYO/ZAGREB, April 11 (Hina) - Croatian Finance Minister Ivan Suker met his Japanese counterpart Sadakazu Tanigaki in Tokyo on Monday, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement.

Suker said that Croatia would not issue new samurai bonds this year thanks to a slowdown in foreign borrowing and development of the domestic financial market.

Suker welcomed the interest Japanese companies had shown in the Croatian Adriatic ports of Rijeka and Ploce and stressed the importance of the Zagreb-Split motorway for Croatia.

Tanigaki said that three Japanese banks were participating in financing the construction of the Zagreb-Split motorway.

Suker took the opportunity to again highlight the importance of signing an agreement on double taxation avoidance between the two countries.

Suker invited Tanigaki to visit Croatia. The two ministers will meet again in Washington during a session of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, the statement said.

Suker is staying in Japan as a member of the Croatian delegation attending the international exhibition EXPO 2005. The delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, Foreign Minister Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic and Culture Minister Bozo Biskupic.
