ZAGREB, April 10 (Hina) - A survey conducted by the Croatian web portal for job seekers, Posao.hr, shows that most employees in Croatia have experienced mobbing, or psychological abuse in the workplace.

As many as 84 per cent of the respondents affirmatively responded to the question whether they had ever been psychologically abused by their colleagues, subordinates or superiors at work.

The survey covered 812 respondents in the City of Zagreb and the counties of Zagreb, Rijeka, Split and Osijek.

The results show that 82 per cent of the respondents have been exposed to so-called vertical mobbing, or abuse by superiors. Horizontal mobbing, or abuse by colleagues sharing the same rank in a company, was cited by 17 per cent of the respondents, while one per cent said they were most frequently abused by their subordinates.

Most respondents, notably 54 per cent of them, said they would tolerate being abused and at the same time look for a new job, while 27 per cent would hand in their notice and search for another job. As many as 12 per cent would tolerate a long-term mobbing without looking for a new job, and only seven per cent would report the employer to competent institutions.
