ZAGREB, March 24 (Hina) - The Association of Antifascist Fighters and Antifascists of Croatia (SABA) on Thursday expressed regret at the harsh comments on its request for a more favourable position of Second World War anti-fascist fighters and their families.

SABA issued a press release saying that it was not true that it asked for the same pensions to be granted to all veterans, explaining that it asked for the same pensions to be given to WWII disabled veterans whose income is 15 percent lower than pensions granted to disabled Homeland Defence War veterans.

Last Tuesday, the association of disabled Homeland War veterans HVIDRA opposed a proposal by the Istrian Democratic Party (IDS) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to equate the rights of WWII anti-fascist fighters with those of Homeland War veterans.

Responding to HVIDRA's move, SABA said that HVIDRA leader Josip Djakic "manipulated data and made blanket accusations against the fighters of the anti-Hitler coalition.

SABA said that the average pension given to WWII anti-fascist fighters was 2,183 kuna while the average pension of Homeland Defence War veterans was 5,479 kuna. It added that it did not ask for equating those pensions as it would be impossible.
