The ambassadors from the neighbouring countries, who convened twice a month for an informal meeting at dinner, today discussed the recent decision of the European Union to postpone opening Croatia's accession talks, Deputy Parliament Speaker Vesna Pusic told Hina after the dinner.
"We wanted to hear opinion of our neighbours, those that are EU members, Italy, Slovenia and Hungary, as well as those that would like to become EU members, Serbia-Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina," Pusic said.
The ambassadors stressed it was necessary to define more precise models for the evaluation of meeting the last remaining criterion for joining the EU, the Croatian People's Party (HNS) chief added.
"Criteria are not clearly defined. Full cooperation (with the tribunal) is liable to arbitrary interpretation, and the postponement is the result (of this imprecise definition), Pusic said.
She said Croatia would try to get the start of the entry talks in coming months and added that it was in everybody's interest that the negotiations might start as soon as possible.
