ZAGREB, March 14 (Hina) - Bosnian Serb Gojko Jankovic, indicted for warcrimes against local Croats and Moslems in the eastern town of Focaduring the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia-Herzegovina, on Monday arrived inThe Hague, where he
voluntarily surrendered to the UN war crimestribunal, the tribunal reported.
ZAGREB, March 14 (Hina) - Bosnian Serb Gojko Jankovic, indicted for
war crimes against local Croats and Moslems in the eastern town of Foca during
the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia-Herzegovina, on Monday arrived in The Hague, where
he voluntarily surrendered to the UN war crimes tribunal, the tribunal
reported. Jankovic, who was a deputy commander of Serb forces in
eastern Bosnia and who had been on the run for nine years after he was
indicted, is the sixth Bosnian Serb to surrender to the International Criminal
Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in the last month and a half.
His indictment alleges that he committed crimes against humanity,
severe breaches of the laws and customs of war, and rape and torture.
The authorities of the Bosnian Serb entity have vowed to give
assurances for Jankovic's provisional release pending trial.
The date of his initial appearance before the ICTY has not yet been
set.
