On the margins of the meeting, which is organised by the Madrid Club, an independent organisation gathering more than 200 experts and politicians, including current and former heads of state and government, Mesic will hold several bilateral meetings.
Mesic will meet Spanish Prime Minister Jose Zapatero, after which he will meet Serbia and Montenegro President Svetozar Marovic, the Prime Minister of Luxembourg and chair of the European Union, Claude Juncker, and former Slovene President Milan Kucan.
This evening, Mesic will hold a speech at the closing part of the three-day meeting that is addressing all aspects of the global threat of the 21st century and ways to effectively counter terrorism.
On Friday Mesic will meet Afghan President Hamid Kharzai and attend a commemoration for the victims of the attack on the Madrid railway, which claimed the lives of 192 people and injured more than 1,500.
