The meeting with the Croatian-Iranian Friendship Group was organised at the insistence of the Iranian president. The Friendship Group, consisting of MPs Semso Tankovic, Mato Arlovic, Tonci Tadic, Miroslav Rozic, Mato Crkvenac and Marin Jurjevic, was established three years ago simultaneously with the formation of a similar group in the Iranian Parliament.
The talks highlighted the importance of dialogue between nations and civilisations in overcoming differences and conflicts in the modern world.
Participants said that political and cultural relations between Croatia and Iran were constantly improving, unlike economic cooperation, which they said was inadequate and needed to be promoted.
Khatami asked the Deputy Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Mato Arlovic, to convey his condolences to Croatian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks on the death of his son in India.
Khatami invited Seks to visit Iran, while Croatian officials invited the speaker of the Iranian Parliament to visit Croatia.
After the meeting with the Croatian-Iranian Friendship Group, Khatami gave a reception at Zagreb's Westin Hotel for members of the Islamic community in Croatia.
On Monday, the Iranian president was received by his host, President Stjepan Mesic, and held talks with other top Croatian officials.
After visiting Croatia, Khatami travelled to Bosnia-Herzegovina.
