ZAGREB, Feb 3 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Thursday resumed a debate on a proposal to set up a commission of inquiry to determine whether Peasant Party (HSS) leader Zlatko Tomcic and People's Party (HNS) deputy Radimic Cacic were in conflict of interest while they served as parliament speaker and minister of construction and development respectively during the previous term of the parliament.

The proposal was backed by the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), the Party of Rights (HSP), the HNS and the HSS, and opposed by the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the Istrian Democratic Party (IDS), the Social Liberal Party (HSLS) and the Democratic Centre (DC).

Cacic also supported the proposal, saying that he saw it as an opportunity to establish a standard under which it would also be possible to initiate investigations against state officials to check the origin of their property and whether they pay tax.

Deputies also discussed a proposal to establish another commission of inquiry to look into the circumstances under which a tender for the award of a licence to a third mobile phone operator was declared null and void. The tender was later repeated and the licence was awarded to a Croatian-Swedish consortium.
