ZAGREB, Feb 2(Hina) - The Archbishop of Zagreb, Cardinal Josip Bozanic, stated on Wednesday that Pope John Paul II had appointed Father Valentin Pozaic an auxiliary bishop of Zagreb.

Pozaic, born in 1945 in Marija Bistrica, a famous Marian shrine in Croatia, is a member of the Jesuit order. He was ordained on 24 June 1973 and he has a doctoral degree from the Pontifical University of Gregoriana in Rome. Pozaic is a Christian ethics professor at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jesuit Society in Zagreb.

He is the third auxiliary bishop of Zagreb, besides Josip Mrzljak and Vlado Kosic.

Culture Minister Bozo Biskupic, who is the head of the government's commission for relations with religious communities, today congratulated Pozaic on his appointment as auxiliary bishop.

The ceremony of Pozaic's installation will be held on 19 March, St. Joseph's Day, in the Zagreb Cathedral.
