The reasons for constant conflicts between the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the People's Party (HNS), the ruling coalition partners in Zagreb, have become the most obvious example of corruption at work and of the lowering of moral standards in politics, Skare Ozbolt said.
She went on to say that the example of former HNS city leadership member Srecko Ferencak bore proof to the lack of political will and determination to fight corruption. After he caused damage to the city budget amounting to 10 million kuna and resigned from his post, Ferencak has kept his seat in the parliament and on the Committee for Home Policy and National Security.
"This is something the DC cannot tolerate," Skare Ozbolt said.
She accused the two parties of positioning their members in city services so that they could control as much city property as possible.
Asked why the State Prosecutor's Office had not pressed any charges against persons responsible for illegal activities, the DC leader said that the Office was doing its job, while she was speaking about the need to establish political responsibility and warn about the growing corruption in the capital.
Asked whether the DC would nominate a candidate for Zagreb mayor, she said that it would.
