Despite the police ban, some 1,000 pensioners gathered briefly in downtown Zagreb last Wednesday. After 15 minutes, they dispersed peacefully at the request of ASH leader Zlatko Klaric.
The party claims that the police banned the rally shortly before it was to take place and despite the fact that the organisers had obtained the necessary permits and announced the rally 15 days in advance.
The Zagreb police said last Wednesday that the rally was banned because its organisers failed to obtain the consent of the city office for road traffic.
