ZAGREB, Jan 6 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sander has refuted assessments of reporters that immediately after the first round of the presidential polls on 2 January he had criticised his coalition partners, namely ethnic minorities' representatives, for their open support to the incumbent President Stjepan Mesic, who is the main rival of Jadranka Kosor, the presidential candidate of Sanader's Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ).

Commenting on those speculation, Sanader said on Thursday after he had attended the ethnic Serb Christmas reception in Zagreb, that he had not asked of representatives of minorities to support the HDZ candidate Kosor in the run-off of the polls on 16 January.

"I did not ask this of them (minority representatives), I asked the support from voters. Jadranka Kosor will fight for voters not only of our coalition partners but for all who did not vote for the presidential candidate Stipe Mesic," Sanader said.

"I think that voters have their positions, each voter takes his or her own stanpoint, opinion and I can tell you that they will carefully think about the second round of the polls and for whom they will vote," the Prime Minister said.

Asked by reporters about the status of Health Minister Andrija Hebrang, who recently underwent difficult surgery in Austria, Sanader said that he would meet Hebrang for talks on the matter later in the day or very probably on Friday.

Asked by reporters whether Miomir Zuzul, who on Tuesday tendered irrevocable resignation as Foreign Minister, would return to the national parliament or whether there were some other plans for the continuation of his political career, Sanader said that there was enough time to consider the issue.

He reiterated that he had requested Zuzul to complete all previously arranged foreign policy activities.

Commenting on the this year's schedule for the terms in schools, under which the Christmas and New Year holidays finished on 3 January, instead a few days later which was the custom in the past, Sanader said that the government would carefully think of the matter and it had enough time to change the schedule, if necessary.
