The Slovene contribution to the joint 2005 budget in Brussels will be made public in late January or early February.
In this context, the new government led by Prime Minister Janez Jansa has announced for this year a major revision of the national budget which it has inherited from the previous government so as to prepare Slovenia to make the most of EU funds.
According to budget projections of the former government, the budgetary deficit is expected to amount to EUR 7.3 billion euros, while revenue is expected to be EUR 6.8 billion. The reduction of the budgetary deficit is considered to be one of the priorities of the incumbent government.
Slovenia joined the EU on 1 May 2004.
