ZAGREB, Jan 5 (Hina) - Brigadier Tomislav Pavicic left Zagreb on Wednesday morning to take over the post of deputy commander of the UN peace mission in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP), thus becoming the highest- ranking Croatian officer in an international mission.

This is the first time a Croatian Armed Forces member has been given such a high-ranking post in an international mission.

This is the second peace mission for the 37-year-old Pavicic, who took part in the Homeland War. His first mission was in Sierra Leone, where he served as an operations officer.

UNMOGIP is one of the oldest UN missions, established in 1949. Croatia has been participating in the mission since 2002. Apart from Pavicic, five other Croatian officers are serving in the mission in India and Pakistan.
