Seselj returned to the detention unit eight days ago and his health has been improving by the day, the tribunal said in a statement. During that period he was transferred to the hospital once for several hours so that his metabolic balance could be improved. The detention unit continues to monitor his food intake.
The Hague tribunal accused Seselj of crimes committed during the war in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina and of the persecution of Croats from Vojvodina. He went on a hunger strike as his trial was about start and stopped 27 days later, on December 8. He began the strike demanding, among other things, that he be enabled to defend himself.
